Kashmir Int’l Marathon: Authorities issue traffic advisory | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNO): As J&K Tourism department is organizing the Kashmir International Marathon on Sunday (October 20) and is likely to witness a large turnout, the authorities here have issued a travel advisory to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize congestion during the event. According to an advisory, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the participants are advised to park their vehicles in designated areas, including SP College Ground, SDA Parking opposite Pick "N" Choose, Multi Level Parking, Press Colony, Presentation Convent School, Gindun Park, Rajbagh, Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh, Football Ground, TRC, Directorate of Horticulture, Rajbagh, Floriculture Park, R.R. Road, and Cricket Ground, TRC (opposite J&K Bank HQ). Regarding traffic restrictions, it stated that traffic will be restricted on several major roads during the marathon, including Residency Road, which will be closed from Radio Kashmir crossing to Polo View from 5 AM to 5 PM. About M.A. Road, it states it will be closed from Budshah Chowk towards Dalgate from 5 AM to 9 AM, and Nehru Park to Kralsangri will be closed from 5 AM to 1 PM. Other closures include areas around Rajbagh and various access points until 1:30 PM. The advisory also states that motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid disruptions. For instance, those traveling from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat should take Burzahama via Chandpora-Tailbal, while Ganderbal/Nagbal residents should opt for the 90 Feet Soura Road to reach Lal Chowk. Additionally, heavy motor vehicles will not be permitted on the marathon routes after 8 PM on October 19. Residents are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement in affected areas. “In case of emergencies, a shorter route will be allowed, and the Traffic Police can be contacted at 103 for assistance. Authorities regret any inconvenience and thank the public for their cooperation,” reads the advisory copy—(KNO)
